SPECIES
belmont is filled to the brim with the supernatural, and these are the species that exist. some may be added in the future.
humans. humans are boring and everyone knows about them. they're completely ordinary, but they do exist on belmont.
vampires. pretty standard, really. fangs, blood lust, immortal and supposedly beautiful. despite the rumors, they are capable of walking in daylight, and they do have reflections. they have an ability called "glamour", where they can compel others around them to do their bidding. the only way to really kill them is a stake through the heart. to become a vampire, you must be killed with vampire blood in your system, completing the transition by drinking human blood after waking up. standard stuff, really.
were-animals. were-animals, or also known as hybrids, started as genetically modified humans, being able to form bonds with one animal and making it their 'familiar'. however, things took a turn for the supernatural when the hybrid gene started mixing with the shifting gene, a gene that allows people to change their bodies. now, they're people who can form a bond with an animal and when that animal dies, they gain the ability to shift into that animal. most were-animals are common house pets, but it's not uncommon to meet someone who has a different bonded animal.
merpeople. the people of the sea - mermaids or mermen. they come in two forms, no batteries included. the mer are known to be the best swimmers, having the ability to outswim most aquatic creatures. like aquaman, they can communicate with the creatures of the sea, and they have a sea form and a land form. while they do resemble humans from the waist up, their land form has legs, whereas their sea form has large, scaled tail. mer are born into the sea, raised in the sea, and then come up to land when they are of age (10) to find a wish granter (see: d'jinn) and gain their land forms. however, it's not entirely uncommon for merpeople to forgo this rite of passage and simply stay in the see forever.
faeries. faeries - out of all the species - are probably the most vague when it comes to their habits and descriptions. at the base, faeries are creatures who possess translucent wings they are unable to hide and have a deep connection with the earth, as their ability range around growing, and healing of plants. aside from that, not much is known about the society the faeries as they often keep to themselves, but it's known that they are ruled by a king and a queen.
witches/wizards. yes, yer a wizard 'arry. witches and wizards are simply humans who have been gifted with the ability to use - you guessed it - magic. of course magic is the the catch-all term, there are more categories to it than people care to learn. magic is like pokemon, to be honest as there are titles to show how strong a magical person is. most default to rank e, that's the rank everyone is given at birth. anything higher requires a (possibly) dangerous challenge, but comes with more freedom. the highest rank is rank O, and there are only about ten registered rank O witches and wizards in the world.
the fallen/risen. not every angel is a saint and not every demon is a sinner, proven through the creation of a fallen and a risen. when an angel commits a sin, even lightly, their halo is ripped from their head and they're pushed down to earth. when a demon resists the temptation of the sin that condemned them to hell they're pushed up from hell. both species have large, feathery wings that span about the same as your arms and they're both able to hide their wings. fallen angels have a residue of magic from their time as an angel and have the ability to heal minor wounds and injuries. while risen demons are able dream-hop and make a person dream of their greatest desire. both races are extremely rare.
d'jinn. or, better known, genies, are floating, human-like creatures. d'jinn, unlike most, float and from birth to death, will never touch the ground with their feet or legs. there is no rub a lamp get three wishes here - though the common way to bring a d'jinn from the lamp they inhabit is to rub it - d'jinn are allowed to grant a person as many wishes as they want no matter the circumstance. though there are rules to follow when it comes to wish granting and wishing. however, d'jinn do not have to follow the rules, and if they choose to grant a very saintly or sinnerly wish it will come true. at the price of their life and the person who wished it though. so if a d'jinn says 'no' to your wish, it's probably because they're looking out for themselves, and maybe you.
ghosts. it's very clear what ghosts are. they're a spirit who has yet to pass on to the afterworlds (heaven, hell, purgatory, what have yous) or they've chosen to just stick around on the earth. they are intangible to the living, though they are capable of interacting with inanimate objects. they have all the normal abilities you'd think a ghost would have (floating, intangibility, invisibility). ghosts can only 'physically' interact with other ghosts, and if a ghost interacts with a human, they human's body goes cold for the duration of their interaction with the ghost. however after, the body warms back up, though that is a gradual process rather than an instant.
dragonborn. wtf is skyrim??? dragonborns are those born with the ability to communicate and tame a dragon, though the dragon must choose them. dragonborns are rare, even more rare than fallen and risen, but once they form a bond with a dragon, they're immortal until that dragon dies and vice versa. most form bonds from dragons their clan watches over when they come of age (15), however it is very possible for them to form a bond with a dragon another clan watches over. dragons of dragonborns are known to be protective of their companions, but some are also known to give zero fucks about their companions, even if they were the one who chose them.
phoenixes. unlike were-animals, phoenixes aren't genetically modified, they've been around since the beginning of time. there are two types of phoenixes, true phoenixes and human phoenixes. true phoenixes are phoenixes who have retained their true phoenix form, but have lost the ability to shift to human form. human phoenixes are - unsurprisingly - the opposite, they've lost their ability to shift into a phoenix. human phoenixes happen to be one of the most dangerous species to exist because of their lack of ability to control their power - which is they tend to spontaneously burst into flames. it's a very painful process, and typically a phoenix can feel it happening before it truly comes down to the flame section of it. for true phoenixes, this when they are reborn from their ashes as a newborn, but it's just an experience of pain and heat to human phoenixes.
demigods. when a god or goddess has sex with a human there is a slight chance of the woman in the pair getting pregnant with - you guessed it - a demigod. the chance, however, is very very slim and demigods are about as rare as they come. if they are born though, they possess a toned down ability of their god/goddess parent. example, if you were to be the child of zeus, you'd have the ability to control storms, or lighting or wind, while the child of aphrodite would be very very good at sex and incredibly beautiful.
pixies. not to be confused with a faerie, pixies are tiny little things that exist to be a pain in the ass. they are not associated with nature, and instead are mischievous in their ways. they like to cause trouble. they also have two forms, though both of which are considered small. their human form is something of a little person - not little as in young, just small in stature - and their pixie form is actually not bigger than the palm of a human hand.
