6am and she was wide awake- the sleep was out of her eyes. not that it was ever there to begin with. she hadn't scraped the sleep out of her eyes in fifty years. she rushed into a classroom, thirty minutes before eight. took out her computer. the swaggiest, she searched, deciding to read some of the news. most would call it gossip- but yves felt a connection with the swamonsta. the computer is telling the truth. yves's faith is in the blog. tyrannicides. rosenburgs. incest square. hm. interesting. ms. rosenburg didn't seem like the type to "do it" with her brother. but hey, you never know. and tyrannicides...was that the other boy and girl? thalia and...what was his name? zack? no, that wasn't right. oh well. it didn't really matter, they could mess around with whoever they wanted. she straightened her jacket and stowed her computer away, watching as some of the club members entered, setting down their backpacks. yves sat up in her little desk in the darkest corner of the room. watching these people learn how to compete...it was almost like a movie. she liked movies. which is probably why she enjoyed life so much, when she had it. it was quite like a documentary. a good documentary. informative, but still fun and spontaneous. and she got to watch it! which was extra cool. she twiddled her thumbs. sophia + stefan rosenburg

i.imgur.com/VuHrb.jpg [attr="class","stt"] sophia paid little to no attention to such swaggy blogs. she had browsed it during her first year at this school and decided that it was a load of (occasionally true) bullshit. but the occasionally fell into a percent margin that wasn't high enough for sophia to bother on a regular basis. what was worth bothering with were the review packets that she was hauling over to the classroom. studying is rewarding in the sense that the results were always directly proportional to the efforts poured in. the people who understood that were already nose-deep in their notecards. those who didn't weren't here. there just wasn't much to do at these early sessions except studying and teaching. most of the students still have sleep in their eyes when sophia walks in, devout or not. she flits amongst the desks, distributing their event schedule for that semester. she pauses for a moment before speaking. "...good morning, everyone."there is a general murmur of a greeting, too groggy to contain much enthusiasm. "i think most of you know what to do. if you don't, then your packet should detail exactly what you should be focusing on for the next month or so. "she's not very good with speeches, even as the captain of the group. sophia decides to go with honesty. "you have a choice here. everyone does." it sounds oddly out of character for sophia before she continues on. "you can choose to sink or swim. you can choose now, or circumstance will choose for you later." or rather, unpreparedness will. it's the only real advice she has. "i will take questions in ten minutes"ah, now there was the fatalistic sophia we all know and love. sophia opens a packet herself before noticing the girl with the laptop. she waits a little for the members to absorb themselves in their own activities before walking over. "back for the semester, yves?" her footsteps are light, graceful. "nobody would mind if you joined, you know."A DROP IN THE OCEAN LAIKA OF GS! yves watched quietly from the corner as sophia handed out the thick packets and calendars. it's funny, how the world works. a lot of people are so dependent upon their packets and calendars. but if sophia made the packets, was it just that a lot of people were dependent on sophia? she was probably a good person to depend on. if you want to pass a class. her notes are probably the shit! yves ripped a page from her notebook and started scribbling diligently. 'pheryf hdtbs wsq yde chriv.' she scribbled frowns around it, giggling under her breath when she read it back over. uh oh. sophia approaches. she flipped the paper over abruptly, smiling faintly at sophia. join the science olympiad? "no, i'm fine, thank you." yves really wasn't interested in participating-- she had always been quite bad at science. "i'd be happy to help aside from that." would she be happy to? no. would she? sure. yves preferred observing, but if sophia needed assistance, she would oblige. probably. i.imgur.com/VuHrb.jpg [attr="class","stt"] sophia wasn't the one for platitudes when it came to science competitions. this wasn't easy stuff, and even an ace like sophia could admit it. she could understand it when people decided that they couldn't balance their other daily responsibilities with another extra-curricular but ... arriving at such an early hour without the intent to participate seemed a little odd. the input didn't line up with the output. the girl gained nothing by being here. well. there was knowledge, but there were more productive ways of attaining that. sophia does hand her a packet, still warm from the printer. she didn't mind, not when most of the material was a guide from the official competition website and old notes that sophia planned to update in the coming weeks. "so... what are you expecting to gain from observing?" A DROP IN THE OCEAN LAIKA OF GS! she came early because she could. she listened in, because she could. and because it was something to do. the night hours only offered so much...most others slept. what was she to do but sit in her room and type. that wasn't fun. so yes, yves was genuinely excited when morning rolled around. people! humans! ...vampires! she hugged the packet, feeling the warm paper. ah, that's the perfect feeling for the morning. as she flipped through it, skimming the important bits she bit her lip. lengthy, for a first draft. sophia took it seriously, which was good. it weeded out the freshmen who weren't committed. a clever choice- bombarding the students with information very early in the year. it was a strategy. not one yves would try, but she respected it. "entertainment." she blurts, looking back up to sophia. "plus, it helps me with my physics class." sophia + stefan rosenburg

i.imgur.com/VuHrb.jpg [attr="class","stt"] right, physics. one of the most dreaded subjects in the school. sophia is no stranger to the fear that it struck into the hearts of students. other students. not the captain of the science team. she didn't really mind yves' presence, but it did seem really odd to her. "you have very... unusual tastes in entertainment." her eyes flicker to the clock on the wall. "it would be far more productive to attend tutorial sessions with your teachers instead. i am about to start electrical currents in two minutes, and i doubt that is anything that your physics teacher is covering at the beginning of the semester."she's taken at least two courses so far. she would know. odd was her middle name. well, not really. it was ruth. physics was hard, yes, but yves didn't mind tough classes. they were good. they helped you learn things. and right now, she hadn't learned much about any sort of science. whatever sophia had to offer, it was probably useful. just sitting in and observing would assist her in her studies. she'd retain a lot of the info she heard. the whole class was also quite socially stimulating. she could learn a lot about people by the way they acted around sophia. if they were nervous or shy or rowdy... it was easy to observe them in this environment. and she could write everything down, unlike in public. "i do," she agrees, a small smile growing on her face. "this stuff is very interesting, though. if i'm being truthful." yves itched her head. meeting with the teachers...that had never even occurred to her before. interesting idea, but...would the teachers mind? if they did... sophia's class was good enough for her. she smiled. "i like it here.""and it doesn't hurt to get ahead."sophia + stefan rosenburg

i.imgur.com/VuHrb.jpg [attr="class","stt"] sophia doesn't know how to point out that sitting here to learn physics is the very opposite of getting ahead without stating it explicitly. by the looks of it, she doubts that it's worth arguing. her time should be reserved for the people who are actually interested in competing, anyhow. "it doesn't hurt." she shrugs slightly before checking the time again. it's time to begin. sophia walks to the front of the room and begins scribbling down problem diagrams. she doesn't lecture them so much on the theory of currents -- that's something that they should have been reading on their own time. sophia's not about to waste everyone else's for those who didn't bother trying. she solves one set of calculations, then another. she only pauses to explain when she felt that it was necessary, which wasn't often. she ends the third set with a hastily scribbled '29 hz'. "any questions?"A DROP IN THE OCEAN LAIKA OF GS!
